Parliament Celebrates Indian Athletes' Achievements

New Delhi, August 3 - Indian athletes who excelled at the recently concluded 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow received accolades from both houses of Parliament on Monday. In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla highlighted the remarkable achievements of Indian competitors across various events. He specifically acknowledged gold medalists Harsh Singh, Asmita Day, Jasmin Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Sachin Siwach, and Ankur Panghal, along with para-athlete Soman Rana.

Birla also recognized silver medalists Praveen Chitravel, Yamini Maurya, Jadumani Singh, Lovlina Borgohain, Neeraj Chopra, and para-athlete Shubham Jual. He mentioned the bronze medalists Tejaswin Shankar, Yashveer Singh, Selva Prabhu, and Gulveer Singh as well. In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan congratulated the Indian contingent for their outstanding performance at the Commonwealth Games, stating that their accomplishments have brought pride to the nation.

He expressed hope that these achievements would inspire new athletes. Radhakrishnan extended his congratulations on behalf of himself and the entire house. Members present in the house applauded the athletes in appreciation.

India secured fourth place in the medal tally at the Commonwealth Games, which concluded on Sunday, with a total of 13 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals.
