Indian Army Successfully Rescues Tourists in Himsetu Operation

In a remarkable display of efficiency, the Indian Army's Trishakti Corps has successfully executed the Himsetu operation, rescuing over 1,300 tourists and 84 locals stranded in Sikkim due to severe weather. The operation, which took place over 48 hours, involved close coordination with local authorities and the construction of a temporary footbridge to facilitate safe passage. Successful Rescue Operation by Indian Army

The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army has successfully completed the Himsetu operation, rescuing stranded civilians. Despite challenging weather conditions, the operation managed to save 1,321 tourists and 84 locals within a span of 48 hours. The army reported that the operation was conducted in a coordinated manner without any incidents.

The evacuation was carried out in close coordination with civil administration and the Border Roads Organization. A temporary footbridge was constructed in the affected area to restore connectivity, enabling the safe movement of those trapped.


Under the Eastern Command, this operation led by the Trishakti Corps showcased rapid response and effective disaster management capabilities. According to DC Anant Jain, around 150-200 tourists were stranded in Chungthang due to multiple landslides caused by heavy rainfall on March 25 in northern Sikkim. Jain noted that the landslides occurred on key routes connecting Gangtok to Lachen and Chungthang to Lachen, leaving tourists stuck in Chungthang.
