Indian Army's Swift Response to Drone Threats
After the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army effectively neutralized more than 600 drones launched by Islamabad in response to missile strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). This significant achievement was made possible through the rapid deployment of India's air defense systems and a decisive counter-response. According to sources, over 1,000 gun systems and 750 short- and medium-range missile systems were activated along the western border. This swift transition transformed India's air defense network from a peacetime posture to full operational readiness almost overnight.
Previously, the government confirmed that Pakistani drones and missiles violated Indian airspace during the midnight hours of May 8 and 9. In retaliation, India activated its air defense network, which includes the S-400 Triumph system, Barak-8 and Akash missiles, along with DRDO's anti-drone technologies, to neutralize the threats. Following the Pahalgam attack on April 22, Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and POK. Subsequently, Pakistan escalated tensions by launching missiles at military sites in northern and western India. However, all incoming missiles were intercepted by the Indian Army.
As Pakistan adopted an aggressive military stance, attacking border towns and districts while targeting Indian military installations, the Indian Armed Forces deployed a layered air defense system that combined both static and mobile platforms in response to aerial threats from Pakistan.
