Indian Army Engages in Operation Akhal, One Militant Neutralized in Kulgam

Operation Akhal in Kulgam

On Saturday morning, the Indian Army reported that during 'Operation Akhal' in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, one militant was killed in an encounter with security forces. The operation is still ongoing in the area. The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army shared on their official social media account, "Intense and intermittent firing continued throughout the night. Alert soldiers responded with precise fire and tightened the cordon while maintaining contact." They further stated, "So far, one militant has been neutralized."


Details of the Encounter

Officials indicated that the clash between security forces and militants began during the night. Following intelligence reports about the presence of militants, security forces initiated a search operation in the forest area of Akhal in South Kashmir. Initially, the operation was halted due to gunfire from both sides, but the cordon was reinforced, and additional troops were deployed in the region. The firing resumed on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of one militant. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased militant and his affiliated group, as the encounter continues.


Recent Encounters

This marks the third significant encounter in the past week. Earlier, on Wednesday, two militants were killed during 'Operation Shivshakti' following an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. This encounter began on Tuesday night in the Kalsiyan-Gulpur area when the Indian Army intercepted a group of militants attempting to breach the border.


Previous Operations

On July 28, three Pakistani militants were killed during an encounter in the forested area of Lidwas, near Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar. This operation, named 'Operation Mahadev', aimed to eliminate militants involved in a terrorist attack that occurred in Pahalgam on April 22.
