Call for Accountability in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir

India has made a formal request to the international community to investigate the 'brutal' use of force by Islamabad against peaceful protesters in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK). Reports indicate that approximately 40 individuals have lost their lives due to security forces' actions since July 27, coinciding with local body elections in the region. Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that the Pakistani military establishment is employing 'barbaric force' against innocent civilians in POJK.

Since last month, widespread protests have erupted in POJK, driven by rising living costs, alleged administrative negligence, and political discrimination against minorities. The 'Joint Action Committee' (JAC) is spearheading these demonstrations. Jaiswal mentioned during a press conference that over 40 civilians have died as a result of these actions, with many others sustaining serious injuries.

He further highlighted the indifference towards the innocent people of POJK, particularly when the defense minister labeled the protesting citizens as enemies. Additionally, Jaiswal pointed out that the Prime Minister's special assistant on political matters acknowledged that militants trained and armed by the Pakistani army to harm India are now using those very weapons against their own country.

Jaiswal described these 'so-called' elections as a 'shameful rejection' by the Pakistani power structure. He emphasized that those facing violent governance have called upon international organizations to conduct an impartial investigation into the unlawful killings. He reiterated India's appeal for the global community to scrutinize Pakistan's actions and hold it accountable for its atrocities.
