India Unveils Squash Team for 2026 Asian Games in Japan

On Monday, India announced its eight-member squash team for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games, featuring veteran player Joshna Chinappa, who is set to participate for the seventh time in a row at this prestigious event.

Scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, the squash competitions will occur at the Nagoya Kinjo-Futo Arena between September 23 and October 3, according to information from Olympics.com. The selection of the team followed trials held at the ISTA Academy in Chennai, showcasing a mix of seasoned athletes and promising newcomers.

Leading the Indian squad is 39-year-old Joshna Chinappa, recognized as one of the nation's top squash players, alongside a rising teenage talent who is making waves in the sport.

This year's Asian Games hold special importance as the champions in both men's and women's singles will earn spots for the LA 2028 Olympics, where squash will be featured for the first time. Abhay Singh and Veer Chotrani will spearhead India's efforts in the men's singles, while Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna will compete in the women's category.

In the mixed doubles event, India has selected two pairs: the experienced combination of Velavan Senthilkumar and Joshna Chinappa, along with the duo of Shameena Riaz and Suraj Chand. This blend of experience and youthful vigor aims to strengthen India's chances for medals at the Games.
