India's Squad Announcement for ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

India has officially revealed its squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur has expressed her confidence in the team's potential, labeling them as favorites for the tournament. The event is scheduled to commence on June 12 in England and Wales, where India aims to secure its first ICC title in the T20 format, following their success in last year's 50-over Cricket World Cup. The Indian team will begin their campaign on June 14 against Pakistan, competing in Group A alongside Australia, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and South Africa.

Harmanpreet Kaur's Confidence in the Team

"I firmly believe this team is among the favorites. The players selected possess the talent to become champions. There’s no pressure or overconfidence; T20 cricket is all about executing good plays," stated Harmanpreet Kaur.

Challenges in Squad Selection

One significant challenge for the selectors has been the absence of Amanjot Kaur, who has been sidelined for several months. To bolster the all-rounder options, India has reintroduced spinner Radha Yadav, who has shown impressive form with the India A team recently.

Kaur acknowledged that Amanjot's absence is a considerable loss, as she has been a vital all-rounder. Finding a suitable replacement has proven difficult, but the team is striving to maintain balance, with Radha Yadav's inclusion providing an additional all-round option. "Amanjot is a key player for us, and her unavailability is a setback. We are working hard to find a balance, and Radha's return is a positive step," she added.

Strategic Changes in the Squad

The selection meeting also resulted in Harleen Deol being left out of the T20I squad, with the team opting for a more aggressive middle-order strategy through Bharti Fulmali. Kaur explained that Fulmali aligns better with the team's current requirements for the middle-order role in T20Is. While Deol remains a contender and is part of the Test setup, Fulmali is currently viewed as the more effective choice for the shorter format.

"Fulmali is a stronger option for the middle order. Harleen is still in our plans and part of the Test team, but for T20Is, Fulmali fits our needs better," Kaur noted.

Emphasis on Execution and Consistency

Despite a recent series loss in South Africa, Kaur is focused on execution, especially during critical phases of the game. "In T20s, the powerplay is crucial. Batters need to target runs, while bowlers should aim for wickets during this phase. We are committed to improving our performance in both the powerplay and middle overs, as they are vital to our success. We have learned valuable lessons from our series in South Africa," she explained.

Kaur also highlighted the importance of consistency in player selection, expressing her support for Jemimah Rodrigues to continue performing. Despite her mixed results in South Africa, Rodrigues has been a key player in India's previous Cricket World Cup victory. "Frequent changes do not benefit us. Jemimah has consistently proven her worth when given opportunities. We will experiment during the camp to prepare for the World Cup, and I am ready to adapt to any role needed for the team," she concluded.

India's Ambitions for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

Following their triumph in the 50-over World Cup, India aims to leverage their momentum and pursue further accolades at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, starting June 12. Kaur, leading the team for the fifth time in this tournament, is eager to guide her squad to the coveted title, having narrowly missed out on previous occasions. The batting lineup will be supported by key players such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh, while the bowling duties will primarily fall to Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh.
