India's cricket teams have made history at the 2026 Asian Games, winning gold medals in both men's and women's categories. The men's team triumphed over Pakistan in a thrilling final, while the women's team showcased their dominance against Sri Lanka. With a total of 85 medals, including 21 gold, India has solidified its position in the continental sports arena. ICC Chairman Applauds Indian Teams

Jay Shah, the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), extended his congratulations to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the national teams for clinching their fourth gold medal at the Asian Games across two editions. He acknowledged the efforts of BCCI officials, coaches Amol Muzumdar and VVS Laxman, as well as captains Harmanpreet Kaur and Shreyas Iyer for their roles in India's successful campaign in 2026. Shah expressed his appreciation in a post on X, stating, "Congratulations to the entire @BCCI team on India's fourth Gold across two editions of the Asian Games. My appreciation for @lonsaikia, @MithunManhas, and other officials for their work behind the scenes, and to coaches @amolmuzumdar11, @VVSLaxman281, and captains @ImHarmanpreet, @ShreyasIyer15 along with their teams for the 2026 campaign."


Men's T20 Team Secures Gold Against Pakistan

The Indian men's T20 cricket team successfully defended their title by defeating their long-time rivals, Pakistan, by 19 runs in the final match. Abhishek Sharma set a strong foundation with a remarkable score of 61 runs off just 28 balls, which included seven sixes. Tilak Varma contributed significantly as well, remaining not out at 51 runs from 22 balls, leading India to a total of 211/6.


Pakistan's Hasan Nawaz put up a valiant effort, scoring 96 runs off 51 balls, but India's bowlers maintained their composure, limiting Pakistan to 192/6. This victory marked India's sixth consecutive win over Pakistan since the 2024 T20 World Cup.


Women's Team Continues Winning Streak

The Indian women's cricket team also showcased their dominance by securing a second consecutive gold medal at the Asian Games. They achieved this with outstanding performances from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, followed by a strong showing from the spinners, leading to a commanding 147-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final.


India's Overall Performance at the 2026 Asian Games

India's total medal count at the 2026 Asian Games reached 85, which included 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals. Approximately 500 Indian athletes participated in the event held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.


The 20th edition of this multi-sport event commenced on September 19 and concluded on October 4, featuring 469 medal events across 43 sports and 71 disciplines.


In the previous edition at Hangzhou 2023, India had a contingent of 650 athletes and achieved a record total of 106 medals, comprising 28 gold, 38 silver, and 40 bronze, finishing fourth overall.
