India is gearing up to face Japan in a men's T20 International match, marking a significant milestone in cricket history. Devajit Saikia, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed the board's excitement about participating in this landmark event, emphasizing its role in expanding the reach of Indian cricket into Japan and East Asia. This match is set to kick off the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan.

Scheduled for September 22 at the Sano International Cricket Ground, this one-off Suzuki Cup match will be the first time India competes against Japan in a men's T20I.

BCCI Celebrates the Historic Match

Saikia stated, "The BCCI is thrilled to be part of this momentous occasion as the Indian and Japanese men's teams unite for a special T20 International in Japan. This is a pivotal moment for cricket, allowing the Indian team to explore new territories and introduce the sport to a broader audience in Japan and East Asia."

He further noted, "India and Japan have a robust and enduring friendship, and we are delighted that cricket will play a role in celebrating 75 years of bilateral relations. We extend our gratitude to the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) for facilitating this match."

Launch of the 'Sport 75' Initiative

This match will also serve as the inaugural event for the 'Sport 75' initiative, which emerged from discussions between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative aims to foster human exchanges and cooperation in sports between India and Japan, aligning with India's aspirations to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.
