New Delhi, June 25: India is preparing to host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers' Meeting, commencing this Thursday in Gurugram, located near the national capital, as part of its BRICS Chairmanship for 2026.

This gathering will convene Energy Ministers and senior officials from all BRICS nations to enhance collaboration on energy security, sustainability, and innovation.

Under India's BRICS Chairmanship, the overarching theme is 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)'. Within the Energy Track, the focus is on 'Energy for All', emphasizing the collective commitment of BRICS countries to ensure universal access to energy.

The BRICS group currently includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, representing nearly half of the global population and about 40% of the world's GDP.

This meeting is timely as nations worldwide strive to balance energy security, affordability, and sustainability while tackling climate change, technological advancements, and increasing energy demands.

The BRICS Energy Agenda aligns closely with India's sustainable development goals, aiming to meet rising energy needs while enhancing security and access, improving grid resilience, diversifying energy sources, and increasing the share of clean energy.

India's Presidency has outlined the BRICS Energy Agenda around three key priorities: energy security and sustainability, energy access and equity, and technology and innovation.

As the third-largest electricity producer and consumer globally, and one of the fastest-growing major economies, India considers secure, affordable, and sustainable energy essential for its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

This meeting will allow India to highlight its advancements in creating a sustainable and future-ready energy system. Over the last decade, India has increased its solar power capacity by over 50 times, installed more than 60 million smart meters, and set an ambitious goal of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032.

Significant reforms have also been made to enhance power transmission and distribution infrastructure. The national transmission network has been expanded to support the large-scale integration of renewable energy, and the development of Green Energy Corridors has been accelerated.

Moreover, India has made impressive progress in the biofuels sector, achieving 20% ethanol blending and recently launching E85 fuel, which contains 80-85% ethanol.

On the global stage, India has positioned itself as a key advocate for clean energy collaboration through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable energy future.

As Chair, India aims to promote the interests of the Global South while fostering practical cooperation on energy security, resilient supply chains, innovation, and sustainable development. In a volatile global energy landscape, enhanced collaboration among BRICS nations is increasingly vital.

The energy ministers' meeting is anticipated to further solidify BRICS cooperation on energy security, innovation, and sustainable development, while advancing collaborative efforts towards secure, affordable, and sustainable energy systems.
