India's Strong Performance at the Championships

At the end of Day 2 of the 5th Bonus Asia Cup Bridge Championships 2026, held at the Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon, India has established a formidable presence in the seniors category while remaining competitive in all major divisions. This prestigious event, recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) and backed by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), features nearly 300 top-tier players from 46 teams representing 16 countries.


Seniors Category Highlights

The India A Seniors team showcased an impressive performance, leading the first round robin with 87.25 Victory Points (VPs). They are ahead of Thailand, which has 77.48 VPs, and Australia, which follows closely with 77.24 VPs. Japan is not far behind at 76.47 VPs. Meanwhile, India B Seniors ended the day in sixth place with 75.60 VPs, just ahead of Chinese Taipei at 75.50 VPs. Both Indian teams are strong contenders for semi-final spots as the second round robin commences tomorrow.


Open Teams Division Update

In the Open Teams division, China is currently in the lead with 100.88 VPs, followed by Hong Kong China A at 100.20 VPs. India B has made significant progress, now in third place with 97.15 VPs, while India A is close behind in fourth with 90.40 VPs. Japan and Korea are also in the mix, with 87.80 VPs and 87.40 VPs, respectively.


Mixed Teams Division Standings

The Mixed Teams division sees China A and China B maintaining their top positions with 106.98 VPs and 102.31 VPs, respectively. Hong Kong China A is securely in third with 96.25 VPs. The competition for the fourth qualifying spot is intense, with Thailand currently holding it at 85.20 VPs, followed closely by Chinese Taipei at 81.11 VPs, and India B at 80.53 VPs.


Women's Teams Category Overview

In the Women's Teams category, defending champions Indonesia are leading with 84.31 VPs, followed by China at 79.85 VPs. Hong Kong China B is in third place with 67.77 VPs, while India A and Japan are in a tight race for the last semi-final spot, with 63.00 VPs and 62.60 VPs, respectively.


Upcoming Tournament Schedule

The qualification rounds will continue daily until June 25, serving as a preliminary stage before the top four teams from each division advance to the semi-finals. The knockout rounds and the Pairs Qualifying Series will commence on June 26, leading up to the Grand Finals and closing ceremony on Saturday, June 27.
