India's Boxing Triumph at Commonwealth Games
India showcased its prowess in boxing at the Commonwealth Games, as Sakshi Choudhary (51kg) and Priya Ghanghas (60kg) advanced to the gold medal matches in Glasgow. Both athletes delivered stellar performances in their semifinals, bringing them closer to winning prestigious Commonwealth titles.
All Seven Boxers Reach Finals
In a remarkable display, all seven Indian boxers who competed in the semifinals progressed to the finals. The athletes include Priya Ghanghas, Sakshi Choudhary, Jadumani Singh, Arundhati Choudhary, Jaismine Lamboria, Ankush Panghal, and Preeti Pawar. Additionally, Lovlina Borgohain, Sachin Siwach, and Narender Berwal are also in the running to join them later.
Sakshi Choudhary's Dominant Performance
Sakshi Choudhary delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Canada's Amber-Jane Wall with a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women's 51kg semifinal. From the beginning, Sakshi controlled the match, winning the first two rounds 5-0 and finishing strong in the final round, securing her spot in the championship bout.
Priya Ghanghas' Tenacious Victory
Priya Ghanghas faced a tough challenge against England's Lucy Kings-Wheatley in the women's 60kg semifinal, ultimately winning 4-1 in a closely fought match. Despite a challenging second round where Kings-Wheatley took the lead, Priya maintained her composure and secured a unanimous 5-0 victory.
Historic Judo Achievements
Earlier in the competition, Indian judokas Harsh Singh and Asmita Dey made history by winning gold medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Harsh Singh triumphed in the men's 60kg category, defeating Australia's Joshua Katz with a decisive Waza-Ari (10-0). Asmita Dey also claimed gold in the women's division, overcoming Canada's Heidi Quach by Yuko (2-1), marking a significant milestone for Indian judo.
