In a thrilling encounter at Johannesburg, India clinched a 14-run victory over South Africa in their fourth T20I match on Saturday. This win, although a consolation as India has already lost the series, brings their tally to one win against South Africa, who leads the series 3-1 with one match remaining.

Deepti Sharma Shines with Bat and Ball

Deepti Sharma made a remarkable comeback, scoring a quickfire 36 not out off 26 balls and taking five wickets, showcasing her all-round capabilities.

India Sets a Competitive Target

After winning the toss, South Africa opted to field first. India faced early setbacks with Shafali Varma dismissed for just nine runs and Anushka Sharma contributing 27 runs off 18 balls, including four boundaries. By the end of the power play, India was at 47 for 2.

A crucial partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur propelled India past the 100-run mark in just 11 overs. Jemimah scored 43 runs off 29 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes, while Harmanpreet added 22 runs off 16 balls.

However, India faced a middle-order collapse, slipping to 120 for 5. Deepti and Richa Ghosh then revitalized the innings, with Deepti remaining unbeaten on 36 and Richa scoring 34 off 18 balls. Their partnership of 65 runs helped India finish at 185 for 5 in 20 overs.

For South Africa, Eliz-Mari Marx, Kayla Reyneke, and Tumi Sekhukhune each took wickets, with Marx recording figures of 2 for 28.

South Africa's Chase Falls Short

In pursuit of 186 runs, South Africa started well with Sune Luus, but Kranti Gaud struck first, dismissing Laura Wolvaardt for 18 runs. Luus managed to score 40 runs off 24 balls before Deepti claimed her wicket.

The South African batting lineup faltered, collapsing from 76 for 2 to 135 for 6. Key players like Tazmin Brits and Chloe Tryon were dismissed cheaply.

Ultimately, South Africa ended their innings at 171 for 9, with Marx and Nonkululeko Mlaba remaining not out. Deepti's exceptional bowling performance of 5 for 19 was pivotal in restricting the opposition.
