India Secures Key Sectors in Landmark Free Trade Agreement with the UK
India's Strategic Trade Agreement with the UK
New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Saturday that India has safeguarded all critical sectors, including dairy, rice, and sugar, in its free trade agreement with the United Kingdom.
Goyal emphasized that this agreement is set to enhance exports of labor-intensive goods such as footwear, textiles, and gems and jewelry.
"We have ensured that all sensitive sectors remain protected... there has been no compromise on these areas for the UK... This makes it a remarkable free trade agreement (FTA) with extensive benefits," Goyal stated to the media.
The agreement was officially signed on July 24 in London.
He further noted that this pact will pave the way for India to access developed markets.
