New Delhi: Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Thursday that India will launch its inaugural course in engineering biology, marking a significant milestone in the country's educational landscape.

Singh, who serves as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Science & Technology, noted that prestigious institutions like IITs and IISc have also proposed the establishment of medical schools.

During an event hosted by NITI Aayog, he stated, "I am pleased to announce the introduction of a pioneering course in engineering biology, the first of its kind in India."

He elaborated on the evolving nature of medical procedures, indicating that tasks such as ultrasounds and advanced MRIs will no longer be solely the domain of radiologists. In the future, electronics engineers may collaborate with radiologists in these processes.

"We need to cultivate our own robust talent-building ecosystem," he emphasized.

Additionally, the minister laid out a strategic vision aimed at positioning India as a leader in the bioeconomy, targeting a remarkable USD 2.6 trillion bioeconomy by the year 2047.
