On May 24, 2026, India will commemorate Commonwealth Games Day at over 8,000 locations through the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative, promoting fitness and sporting excellence nationwide.
Ahmedabad to Host the 75th Fit India Sundays on Cycle
The 75th Fit India Sundays on Cycle event will take place in Ahmedabad on May 24, celebrating the spirit of the Commonwealth Games. This event aims to foster sportsmanship, unity, fitness, and national pride. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, along with Gujarat's Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, will lead the festivities. The theme, 'A New Icon for a Fitter India - Pedalling to 2030,' emphasizes the goal of preparing India for the Commonwealth Games in 2030 through fitness and unity.
Exhibition Showcasing Sporting Achievements
A special exhibition themed around the Commonwealth Games will be inaugurated during the event, highlighting India's sporting accomplishments over the past 12 years. It will also feature key initiatives like the Khelo India Mission and Sports Goods Manufacturing programs. This initiative is viewed as a crucial step in transforming sports into a movement for the people, with the campaign's core message being 'Fitness Apnao, Khel Sanskriti Badhao.'
Participation from Celebrities and Dignitaries
The event will see participation from actor Ayushmann Khurrana, along with Commonwealth and Olympic medalists such as Rajani Etimarpu, Gurjit Kaur, Sonika Tandi, Ankur Mittal, Trupti Murgunde, and Anjum Modgil. Additionally, Union Ministers, State Ministers, MPs, and local representatives will join in their respective areas, enhancing the Sports Jan Bhagidari movement across the nation.
Fostering a Sports Culture Nationwide
Leading up to Commonwealth Games Day, a nationwide quiz, reel-making contest, and torch design competition were held on the MY Bharat platform, engaging over 100,000 young participants and showcasing their enthusiasm for the event.
'Fitness ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz' has become a popular fitness mantra, emphasized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mann Ki Baat as a vital step towards evolving sports culture into a true public movement.
Fit India Sundays on Cycle has grown into one of the largest community fitness movements in the country, reaching 307,000 locations across 74 editions, with participation from over 5 million cyclists and engagement from more than 70 million Indians nationwide.
Various activities, including Yoga, Zumba, quiz contests, reel-making, and torch design competitions, are being organized to boost public involvement while reinforcing the vision for CWG 2030 and India's broader sporting ambitions.
