India Faces Setback in BRICS Meeting Over West Asia Issues
India's Challenges in BRICS Meeting
New Delhi: The recent BRICS meeting held in Delhi last week faced challenges in forming a unified stance on the situation in West Asia. Significant differences emerged among BRICS nations regarding the conflicts involving the US-Israel and Iran, preventing consensus on a joint statement.
According to sources, a clear division was evident among member countries during the discussions. Some nations advocated for a strong stance against Israel, while others called for a more balanced and cautious approach. These disagreements complicated the process of reaching a unified policy.
Setback for India's Initiative
India currently holds the presidency of BRICS and had aimed for all member states to agree on a common statement. However, differing interests and perspectives among the countries hindered this initiative. Ultimately, only a 'Chair Statement' was released following the meeting.
India's Stance on Palestine Remains Steadfast
Sources clarified that there has been no shift in India's policy regarding the Palestine issue. India reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution and the restoration of peace in the region, maintaining its traditional diplomatic balance.
Global Unity on West Asia Issues Remains Elusive
The meeting in New Delhi highlighted the difficulty of achieving consensus on sensitive issues like West Asia on global platforms. Even within a powerful group like BRICS, differing strategic interests and political viewpoints complicate the formation of a unified stance.
