Government Reassures Fuel Availability

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Thursday that India has a sufficient stock of crude oil, LPG, and LNG, with supplies secured for nearly two months. The ministry reassured both consumers and the industry regarding fuel availability.

During a joint briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry, stated that the supply of key petroleum products remains stable, with government oil marketing companies ensuring uninterrupted availability across the nation. She emphasized that the supply of crude oil, petrol, diesel, LPG, and natural gas is consistent, and refineries are operating at full capacity. Although some retail outlets are experiencing higher sales, the government companies are maintaining a smooth supply.

Responding to media inquiries about fuel stocks, Sharma confirmed that the government has ample reserves and has taken measures to ensure a steady supply. She noted that this question has been raised repeatedly over the past three months, and each time, the response has been that sufficient stock is available. The government aims to provide petrol, diesel, LPG, and natural gas to all customers with minimal disruption. Updating on stock availability, Sharma stated, "We have stock, and arrangements are in place for the next two months." However, she refrained from commenting on potential future price changes, stating, "I cannot comment on what the future holds for prices."

The Ministry also shared operational data indicating a robust fuel supply. Sharma reported that in the last three days, approximately 14 million domestic LPG cylinders were booked, with 14.9 million delivered. During this period, around 22,340 tons of commercial LPG were sold. The ministry noted that sales of 5-kilogram LPG cylinders reached about 191,000 units. Since March, nearly 942,000 PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections have been activated, with infrastructure prepared for 312,000 connections, and 944,000 new customers registered. The government has communicated with states and union territories, urging local authorities to collaborate with gas distribution companies to encourage LPG customers to adopt PNG wherever feasible. Sharma urged customers to avoid panic buying and to use fuel responsibly.
