India's Growing Influence in AI Technology

New Delhi, Jan 17: A recent report indicates that India ranks second globally in the utilization of Claude.ai, an AI platform developed by the US-based company Anthropic. The majority of this activity is focused on software and technical development.

According to the findings from Anthropic, five out of the top ten applications of Claude in India are related to software development, with 45.2% of these applications involving computer and mathematical tasks.

The report also reveals that Indian users are significantly overrepresented in tasks involving CSS, HTML, and UI styling, being twice as likely to engage in these activities. Additionally, they are 1.7 times more likely to be involved in building and debugging web applications.

Other notable applications among Indian users include the creation of AI systems like chatbots and workflow automation, which show a 1.5 times higher representation. Users are also leveraging Claude for job searches, professional growth, academic STEM projects, and business strategy development.

India's Anthropic AI Usage Index stands at 0.22, indicating the level of Claude's usage compared to the working-age population. An index above 1 suggests higher-than-expected usage, while below 1 indicates lower engagement.

Globally, the use of Claude is primarily focused on coding-related tasks, with the US, India, Japan, the UK, and South Korea leading in overall usage.

The report notes that some professionals, such as radiologists and therapists, may find their roles enhanced as AI takes over time-consuming tasks, allowing them to spend more time with patients. Conversely, roles like data entry, IT specialists, and travel agents may face simplification or deskilling due to AI's capabilities.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, previously stated that India is the second-largest market for the AI firm and has the potential to become the largest. With a youthful and tech-savvy population, India is well-positioned to embrace emerging technologies, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence.

Indian youth are quickly adopting advanced technological tools, positioning the country as a global center for innovation and digital expertise.
