India Dominates ISSF Junior World Cup with 16 Medals

India achieved remarkable success at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo, finishing first in the medal tally with 16 medals, including five golds. India's Medal Triumph at ISSF Junior World Cup

India showcased an impressive performance at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, finishing at the top of the medal tally with a total of 16 medals. This included five gold, six silver, and five bronze medals.


Hemant Burman's Silver in 50m Rifle 3 Positions


In the first final of the day, Hemant Burman clinched a silver medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, scoring 351.7 across three positions. The 18-year-old shooter qualified for the finals in seventh place with a score of 578-24x. He was joined by fellow competitors Vedant Nitin Waghmare and Rohit Kanyan, who scored 581 and 580, respectively. Rohit finished sixth with a score of 311.9, while Vedant placed seventh with 300.5. The gold medal was awarded to Oleg Noskov from Kazakhstan, who set a new world junior record with a score of 355.6, and Nikita Solokov from Uzbekistan took home the bronze with 341.2. Other Indian shooters, Manvendra Singh Shekhawat (578-23x), Kushagra Singh Rajawat (576-24x), and Hithesh Srinivasan (574-26x), did not make it to the top eight.


Bronze Medal in Trap Mixed Team Event


In the final event of the Junior World Cup, the duo of Zuhair Khan and Addya Katyal secured a bronze medal with a total score of 19 after qualifying with a score of 137. Initially in silver medal contention after the first two series, the pair faced challenges in the third series, with Addya missing four out of five shots and Zuhair missing one, resulting in their drop to bronze. The gold medal was claimed by Hungary's Bence Doeboerhegyi and Anna Nyitrai, who set a new world junior record with a score of 32, while neutral athletes Ramir Nikolaev and Kseniia Tatarinova earned silver with a score of 25.


Other Results and Future Competitions


In the 50m Rifle Prone Women event, Indian shooters Tejal Nathawat, Yugeshwari Bais, Anushka Thokur, and Khwaish Sharma did not secure any medals. Looking ahead, the Indian junior athletes will prepare for the ISSF Junior World Championship, a key event on the calendar, scheduled to take place in Suhl, Germany, in June.
