Fielding Coach's Reflections on the Win
After the historic win, Dilip shared his personal connection to this achievement, having been part of India's support staff in various World Cup campaigns. He expressed gratitude towards the BCCI, coaches, and players, stating, "It's a matter of great happiness. I feel a lot of satisfaction. We are happy with the ICC win, and I'm glad I was a part of it."
Sanju Samson: The Star of the Final
Sanju Samson's remarkable performance, scoring 89 runs off 46 balls, was pivotal in India's innings, which totaled an impressive 254 runs. His innings was the highest score in the match, marking his third consecutive fifty in the tournament. Prior to the final, he had also scored an unbeaten 97 against West Indies and 89 against England in the semifinals.
Dilip praised Samson for seizing his opportunity during the tournament, likening his journey to a cinematic narrative. He highlighted that the 'Player of the Tournament' was not only outstanding with the bat but also excelled in wicket-keeping, despite initial uncertainties about his place in the team.
Importance of Clear Communication
Dilip credited the team's success to the clear communication fostered by Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav, which ensured that even non-playing members understood their roles well.
Samson's Dedication and Professionalism
Reflecting on Samson's journey, Dilip noted the cricketer's unwavering dedication, even when not selected for the playing XI. He remarked, "Sanju is a wonderful human being who deeply understands the game. His commitment during practice, whether for wicket-keeping or batting, was commendable."
Dilip emphasized that Samson's professionalism and mental resilience were crucial in his impactful performances once he was given the chance to play. He concluded by stating, "When the opportunity finally came, he grabbed it with both hands, showcasing his brilliance both with the bat and behind the stumps."
