Shukla Celebrates Historic Victory

Rajeev Shukla, the Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed immense pride on Saturday following India's gold medal victory in cricket against Pakistan at the Asian Games. He commended the players for their ability to adapt to the challenging pitch conditions in Japan, which contributed to their impressive performance. Shukla noted that this win is a testament to the ongoing development of Indian cricket under the BCCI's guidance, emphasizing the team's recent achievements. To date, India has secured a total of 83 medals at the 2026 Asian Games, including 20 gold, 26 silver, and 37 bronze medals.


After the women's team secured their gold, the men's team followed suit by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs in the final match, thanks to outstanding contributions from players like Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Axar Patel.


"Winning the gold medal in cricket against Pakistan is a significant achievement, and our players showcased exceptional skill. The unfamiliar wicket conditions did not hinder their performance, allowing them to reach the final and claim victory. This reflects the growth of cricket in India, supported by the BCCI's efforts. We have already triumphed in the Asia Cup and now in the Asian Games, demonstrating the continuous progress of Indian cricket," Shukla stated during an interview in Meerut.


"It's noteworthy that while the India vs West Indies series is ongoing, different players are participating in various formats, showcasing the depth of talent in our squad. This allows us to provide opportunities to a wider range of players while maintaining our winning streak, which is truly gratifying," he added.


Match Highlights: India vs Pakistan

In the final match, Pakistan faced a daunting target of 212 runs. Hasan Nawaz emerged as a standout performer for Pakistan, scoring 96 runs off just 51 balls. However, India's bowlers maintained the pressure, with Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube each taking two wickets. Earlier, India set a formidable total of 211 runs for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a rapid 61 runs off 28 balls, while Tilak Varma remained not out at 51 runs off 22 balls, and Shivam Dube added a quickfire 27 runs off 14 balls, propelling India past the 200-run mark.
