Vice President Commends Indian Athletes

On Thursday, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan praised the remarkable achievements of India's rowing team, consisting of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan, along with wushu competitor Roshibina Devi, who excelled at the Asian Games 2026.

Wushu: Roshibina Devi Claims Silver

Roshibina Devi earned her second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games, narrowly losing to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the women's sanda 60 kg final held in Aichi-Nagoya. Earlier in the day, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan secured a bronze medal in the men's double sculls final.

In a post on X, Radhakrishnan expressed his heartfelt congratulations: "Kudos to Satnam Singh and Salman Khan for their Bronze Medal in the Men’s Double Sculls, and to Roshibina Devi Naorem for her Silver Medal in the Women’s 60kg Sanda event at the Asian Games 2026. The teamwork and endurance displayed by Satnam and Salman are commendable, while Roshibina’s third consecutive medal is a historic achievement for Indian Wushu. May they continue to inspire pride in our nation."

Roshibina's Journey

Roshibina, who also secured a silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, faced tough competition, losing both rounds with a score of 0-5. Her impressive performance included a victory over 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam.

In the semi-finals, she triumphed over Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas with a score of 2-0, earning her spot in the finals.

India's Medal Tally

India has now achieved a total of 14 medals at the ongoing Asian Games, which includes one gold, six silvers, and seven bronzes.

Rowing: Satnam and Salman Secure Bronze

In rowing, the duo of Satnam and Salman finished with a time of 6:13.25, just 3.48 seconds behind the gold medalists Yi Xudi and Nie Yide from China, and 2.76 seconds behind the silver medalists Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin.

They held the second position at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks but lost momentum towards the end, trailing by only half a second at one point.

Balraj Panwar Falls Short

In the men's singles sculls, Balraj Panwar finished fourth. He was in second place at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks but was overtaken by Uzbekistan's Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan's Tatsuya Sakurama in the final stretch.

Despite having a five-second lead over Sakurama before the last stretch, Balraj ended up finishing eight seconds behind, clocking in at 6:54.80, which was 15 seconds slower than gold medalist Zhiwei Deng from China.
