Mandaviya Applauds Gold Medal Achievers
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed his admiration for Indian athletes Parveen Hooda, Ankush Panghal, and wrestler Sujeet Kalkal, who all clinched gold medals at the Asian Games on Friday.
Sujeet Kalkal's Thrilling Wrestling Victory
Sujeet Kalkal made history by winning a gold medal in the men's freestyle 65kg wrestling final at the Asian Games 2026, overcoming Tajikistan's Abdulmazhid Kudiev. After trailing 2-9 with just 1 minute and 40 seconds remaining, Sujeet executed a series of takedowns, ultimately securing victory with only eleven seconds left.
Boxing Golds for Hooda and Panghal
In boxing, both Parveen Hooda (women's 65 kg) and Ankush Panghal (men's 80 kg) earned gold medals for India. Mandaviya took to X to congratulate Parveen, stating, "Unstoppable in the ring! Congratulations to Parveen Hooda for striking GOLD in the Women’s 65kg Boxing event at the #AsianGames2026. Keep shining, champ! #Cheer4Bharat."

India's Medal Count at the Asian Games
As of now, India has amassed a total of 75 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which includes 15 golds, 25 silvers, and 35 bronzes.
Men's Sepaktakraw Team Wins Bronze
Earlier, the Indian men's sepaktakraw team celebrated a bronze medal after losing to Japan in the semifinals. The team, consisting of Malemnganba Singh Sorokhaibam, Ram Kumar Sharma, Bobby Kumar, and Akash Yumnam, lost 0-2 (12-15, 13-15) to Japan, marking India's third medal in sepaktakraw at the Asian Games.
Historic Achievement in Archery
In a remarkable upset, India's women's recurve archery team, featuring Kumkum Mohod, Ankita Bhakat, and Kirti Sharma, defeated South Korea 5-3 to win the country's first-ever gold medal in this discipline at the Asian Games 2026. Kumkum played a pivotal role, scoring two crucial 10s in the final moments.
Additionally, Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara earned silver in the mixed recurve archery team event after a close match against China's Zhu Jingyi and Li Mengqi.

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain marked her 29th birthday by winning gold in the women's 75kg final against China's Bao Ziyi. Furthermore, sailor Nethra Kumanan secured a bronze medal in the women's dinghy event, showcasing her resilience after a challenging first race.
Nethra's performance was commendable, as she finished level on points with Hong Kong's Stephanie Louise Norton but claimed the bronze due to better head-to-head results.
In another highlight, India secured a silver medal in the men's recurve team event after a loss to South Korea in the final, adding to a remarkable day for Indian archers.
