New Delhi: On Wednesday, India expressed its support for a newly established two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, emphasizing the need for "de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy" to foster enduring peace in the West Asian region.

"We welcome the ceasefire agreement and are hopeful it will pave the way for lasting peace in West Asia. As we have consistently advocated, de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy are crucial for swiftly resolving the ongoing conflict," stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

"The ongoing conflict has inflicted significant hardship on the populace and has disrupted global energy supplies and trade routes. We anticipate that there will be unimpeded freedom of navigation and a smooth flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz," the MEA added.
