India Announces ODI and Test Squads for New Zealand Tour
India's ODI Squad Announcement
On Friday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the One Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. Shubman Gill will captain the team for the first three ODIs, while Shreyas Iyer will take over for the last two matches.
Gill's leadership will be crucial as he prepares for the subsequent Test series after the initial three ODIs. Iyer, who has been appointed as vice-captain for these matches, will lead the squad in the fourth and fifth ODIs.
Notably, Jasprit Bumrah, a key fast bowler, has been excluded from the ODI lineup but is included in the Test squad for the tour. Additionally, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who participated in the recent ODI series against the West Indies, is also absent from the ODI squad.
ODI Series Schedule
The five-match ODI series is set to commence in Auckland on November 4, with the second and third matches taking place in Wellington and Hamilton, respectively. The final two ODIs will be held in Mount Maunganui on November 13 and 15.
New Faces in the Squad
Fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has received his first call-up for the initial three ODIs, while wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra will join the squad for the last two matches. Prasidh Krishna's inclusion for the first three ODIs is contingent upon passing a fitness test.
Experienced Batting Line-Up
The batting order features seasoned players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, alongside Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, ensuring a strong mix of experience and depth.
Bowling Attack Overview
Mohammed Siraj will lead the bowling unit, supported by spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Young pacers Anshul Kamboj and Gurnoor Brar are also part of the squad.
India's Test Squad for New Zealand Tour
The BCCI has also disclosed the Test squad, which will be captained by Gill, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.
The batting lineup includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, and Sai Sudharsan, while Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel will handle wicketkeeping duties, pending Pant's fitness.
In the bowling department, the squad features Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Anshul Kamboj, bolstering the pace attack. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar, along with spinner Kuldeep Yadav, complete the squad.
