Strengthening Ties Between India and the US

The Ministry of External Affairs stated on Friday that India and the United States share a comprehensive global strategic partnership that has successfully navigated numerous challenges. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed confidence that this partnership will continue to evolve positively. He emphasized that the collaboration is rooted in shared interests, democratic values, and strong people-to-people connections.

During a press conference, Jaiswal reiterated that the partnership has faced various changes and challenges over time. He highlighted the focus on a solid agenda to which both nations have committed, assuring that their relationship is set to progress further.

Jaiswal also noted that defense relations between India and the US remain robust and have strengthened over recent years. He mentioned the potential for further growth in this partnership under the framework of the 21st-century India-US agreement. He clarified that the fulfillment of India's defense needs is entirely determined by national security requirements and strategic assessments.

However, his remarks came in the context of reports indicating that following President Trump's decision to impose a 25% tariff on India, citing Russian oil and arms purchases, India has declined the US proposal to purchase F-35 fighter jets. Previously, the government informed the Lok Sabha that there had been no formal discussions with the US regarding the acquisition of F-35 aircraft.
