Introduction to Para Élan

The French Institute in India (IFI), in partnership with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), has introduced Para Élan, a significant three-year initiative aimed at promoting inclusive education and empowering youth through para sports.

Formal Agreement Signed

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed by Satya Prakash Sangwan, Vice-President of PCI, and Gregor Trumel, Country Director of IFI. The signing ceremony took place under the auspices of Thierry Mathou, the French Ambassador, and was attended by para-athletes and key stakeholders from both nations.

Ambassador's Remarks

Ambassador Thierry Mathou expressed his support for the initiative, stating, "This MoU aligns perfectly with our sports diplomacy values, which focus on promoting sports through education and fostering an inclusive society for youth. Over the next three years, we aim to engage around 10,000 students in partner schools of the French Institute in India through various activities and awareness campaigns about para sports."

Significance of Para Élan

Satya Prakash Sangwan emphasized that Para Élan represents a pivotal step towards enhancing inclusive education and para sports in India. He noted that this partnership, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to empower para-athletes, aims to create opportunities for awareness, participation, and excellence for all individuals with disabilities in India.

Goals and Vision

The Para Élan initiative seeks to place India-France collaboration at the forefront of para sports by embedding values of inclusion, resilience, equality, and excellence within educational frameworks. It will involve students through awareness initiatives, interactive workshops, athlete interactions, and inclusive sporting events across partner institutions.

Implementation Roles

Both organizations will have distinct yet complementary roles in executing the initiative. The French Institute in India will leverage its network of private and public partner schools, facilitate coordination, and incorporate inclusive sports values into its educational programs, including the French for All and French for a Better Future initiatives.

Meanwhile, the Paralympic Committee of India will lend its expertise in adaptive sports by creating tailored content for schools, deploying trained educators and para-athletes for demonstrations, and fostering Indo-French cooperation in para sports.

A Vision for the Future

Parul Mahajan Oberoi from PCI, who is leading the initiative, remarked, "Para Élan is a vision realized—where collaboration meets purpose. Our goal is to inspire and empower the next generation while paving the way for a more inclusive future through education."

Sports as a Catalyst for Change

Representatives from both nations underscored the role of sports as a powerful catalyst for social change and inclusion. This initiative embodies the shared commitment of India and France to provide equal opportunities and empower youth from diverse and marginalized backgrounds.

The program will be executed in partnership with leading educational institutions, utilizing the expertise of para-athletes, educators, and international collaborators. Its aim is to create a lasting impact by raising awareness, promoting participation in adaptive sports, and instilling inclusive values within school communities.
