New Delhi, August 7 - India and Bhutan convened on Friday to assess their ongoing collaboration in the water resources sector. The discussions focused on cross-border river management, flood forecasting and management, hydrological data, and other areas of mutual interest. According to an official statement, these topics were addressed during a high-level bilateral meeting between India's Union Minister for Water Power, C.R. Patil, and Bhutan's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Jem Shering, aimed at enhancing cooperation on transboundary rivers.

During the meeting, the ministers also evaluated the progress of the ‘Punatsangchhu-1’ hydropower project being implemented in Bhutan with the support of the Indian government. They discussed necessary measures for its prompt execution. The statement highlighted that both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to the sustainable and mutually beneficial management of transboundary water resources. It was agreed that continuous technical cooperation, mutual trust, and regular institutional dialogue would further strengthen bilateral collaboration in the water resources sector.
