India Advocates for Trade Freedom Among BRICS Nations to Enhance Exports

In a recent meeting of BRICS trade ministers in Brazil, India called for the removal of export controls among member nations to facilitate trade. Economic Adviser Yashvir Singh emphasized the need for mutual support and highlighted India's upcoming presidency in 2026. The country also proposed the '30 for 30' initiative to mark the WTO's anniversary and urged developed nations to assist in the transfer of environmentally sound technologies. India's commitment to global cooperation in digital infrastructure and cybersecurity was also reiterated, showcasing its proactive stance in international trade relations.

India's Call for Dismantling Export Controls

New Delhi: India has called on BRICS member countries to eliminate export restrictions to enhance trade, according to an official announcement made on Friday.

During the 15th BRICS trade ministers' meeting held in Brazil, Yashvir Singh, Economic Adviser in the Department of Commerce, highlighted the importance of removing trade barriers that hinder essential supply chains.

The commerce ministry noted that India took this opportunity to voice its opposition to export controls among BRICS nations, advocating for mutual assistance within the group.

As India gears up to take over the BRICS Presidency in 2026, it praised the Brazilian leadership's proactive approach in tackling significant trade challenges.

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization that includes ten nations: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the UAE.

India also emphasized its '30 for 30' initiative, which aims to implement 30 incremental enhancements in celebration of the WTO's 30th anniversary in 2025.

Furthermore, India urged developed countries to facilitate the concessional transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies (ESTs), backed by sufficient financial resources.

The nation reaffirmed its dedication to global collaboration in areas such as Digital Public Infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity through platforms like the Global Partnership on AI and G20.
