India Advocates for Dialogue Amid Global Conflicts
India's Diplomatic Stance on Global Issues
On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India's stance regarding international disputes, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy are essential solutions in a world rife with conflicts and crises. Following his discussions with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova in Sofia, Jaishankar remarked on the current global landscape, which is characterized by uncertainty, economic difficulties, the ongoing effects of the pandemic, and terrorism threats. He stated, "This is not a time for war; the resolution lies in dialogue and diplomacy."
Jaishankar also highlighted the necessity for secure and diversified supply chains to mitigate economic risks stemming from global tensions. He pointed out the importance of safeguarding maritime trade routes to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods worldwide. "To address economic risks, we must focus on supply chain resilience and diversification. It is crucial that maritime trade remains unhindered and secure. India, representing the Global South, has consistently raised concerns regarding energy, food, and fertilizers," he noted.
Regarding terrorism, Jaishankar stressed the need for the international community to adopt a firm stance, asserting, "The world must embrace a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism." He mentioned that there was a consensus on these issues between India and Bulgaria.
During his visit, Jaishankar engaged with Bulgarian leaders, including President Rumen Radev, to discuss enhancing cooperation in trade, defense, and mobility, as well as India's broader relationship with Bulgaria and the European Union. The External Affairs Minister indicated that both nations reviewed their bilateral relations and explored new avenues for collaboration, particularly concerning the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement and strategic partnerships.
After his engagements in Bulgaria, Jaishankar is set to travel to Finland on June 11 to participate in the 14th Kultaranta Talks, which will focus on the theme, "A World in Transition: Global, Regional and Local Perspectives." He is also anticipated to meet with Finnish leaders during this visit.
