India Achieves Record T20 Chase Against New Zealand
Historic Victory for Indian Cricket Team
On Thursday, October 22, the Indian cricket team made a remarkable start to their tour of New Zealand. They triumphed in the first T20 match held in Christchurch, successfully chasing down a target of 226 runs with two balls to spare, winning by four wickets. This victory marked a significant milestone as it became India's highest successful run chase in T20 International history, clinched with a six from Naman Dheer. Earlier this year, India had chased down a target of 209 runs against New Zealand in Raipur, thanks to explosive performances from Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube. Additionally, in 2023, India had also successfully chased 209 runs against Australia in Visakhapatnam, alongside achieving targets of 208 against the West Indies in Hyderabad and 207 against Sri Lanka in Mohali.
India's Dominance in New Zealand Continues
With this victory, India has maintained an unbeaten streak in T20 Internationals in New Zealand since 2019. Their last defeat in this format on Kiwi soil occurred in February 2019 in Hamilton, where they fell short by just four runs, scoring 208 while chasing a target of 213. Since then, India has won all five T20 series against New Zealand, including a clean sweep of 5-0 during their 2020 tour and a 1-0 victory in a three-match series in 2022, where one match was abandoned due to rain and the final match ended in a tie.
