India A is scheduled to embark on a tour to New Zealand for a three-match, four-day red-ball series against New Zealand A, taking place from October 24 to November 10. This tour will serve as crucial preparation for India's two-Test series against the Black Caps in the World Test Championship (WTC).

Tour Schedule and Match Venues

As per a statement from New Zealand Cricket, all matches will occur at Bert Sutcliffe Oval and Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The series will coincide with India's white-ball tour of New Zealand.

The first match is set for October 24-27, followed by the second from October 31 to November 3, and the final match from November 7 to 10.

Opportunities for Players

These fixtures will allow New Zealand's top domestic red-ball players to compete against India's emerging talents and fringe international players. Entry to all matches will be free, and fans can watch live streams on New Zealand Cricket's YouTube channel, with live scores available on the NZC website.

Impact on Domestic Seasons

The India A series will overlap with India's domestic Ranji Trophy season, which kicks off on October 11. Consequently, players chosen for the New Zealand tour will miss their domestic matches.

Conversely, New Zealand A players will participate in the domestic calendar, with the Ford Trophy scheduled from October 28 to November 12, followed by the Plunket Shield starting on November 19.

Significance of the Series

This four-day series is anticipated to be a vital preparation phase for both teams ahead of their senior sides' two-Test series.

India vs New Zealand Senior Series

India's white-ball tour, featuring five T20Is and five ODIs, will commence on October 22 and continue until November 15. The Test series will kick off with the first match in Wellington from November 19 to 23, followed by the second Test in Christchurch from November 27 to December 1.

World Test Championship Context

The two-Test series will have implications for the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, with New Zealand currently in third place and India in fifth. New Zealand is also set to tour Australia in December-January and has upcoming series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan during this WTC cycle.

India will host Australia for a five-Test series in January and February, concluding their commitments in the cycle. The India A vs New Zealand A matches will thus provide both teams a chance to evaluate their red-ball depth and identify potential candidates for senior Test selection.
