Char Dham Yatra: As the Char Dham pilgrimage in Uttarakhand commences, incidents of cyber fraud related to online hotel, helicopter, and travel bookings are surging. Pilgrims are being targeted through fake websites, social media ads, and WhatsApp messages. In response to these threats, the Noida Police Commissionerate has launched a special campaign to raise awareness among travelers to prevent them from falling victim to online scams.

Under the guidance of Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, the cyber cell and all police stations have been placed on high alert. The police are continuously informing the public to make bookings for the Char Dham Yatra only through authorized government websites and portals. Cyber cell officials report that fraudsters create fake websites to lure individuals with offers of cheap packages, helicopter tickets, and VIP darshan.

Cyber Fraud in the Name of Char Dham Yatra

Often, these fraudulent websites closely resemble official portals, making it easy for individuals to be deceived and fall victim to scams. Cybercriminals promote their schemes through advertisements on social media and Google searches, subsequently contacting victims while posing as travel agents or authorized booking agencies. They pressure pilgrims to make quick payments by enticing them with discounts of 20 to 30 percent, confirmed tickets, and last-minute seat availability.

Fraudsters Disappear After Scamming

Fraudsters also send fake app IDs and QR codes. Once the payment is made, they shut off their phones and vanish. According to DCP of the Cyber Cell, Shaivya Goyal, there is a high demand for helicopter services during the Char Dham Yatra. Cybercriminals exploit this demand by creating fake helicopter booking websites, swindling thousands of rupees from unsuspecting travelers. Pilgrims are falling prey to scams under the guise of advance bookings.

How to Book Helicopter Services Safely

In light of this, the Uttarakhand government has issued an official website for helicopter bookings, and the tourism department has also provided an official WhatsApp number, 839433833. Despite this, many individuals continue to trust social media links and unknown websites, emboldening cybercriminals. The Noida Police urges travelers heading for the Char Dham Yatra to exercise extreme caution.

The DCP of the Cyber Cell advises that if someone becomes a victim of online fraud, they should immediately file a complaint at the cyber helpline number 1930. Complaints can also be lodged on the National Cyber Crime Portal. Timely reporting increases the chances of recovering lost funds.
