Inauguration of the Renovated Anna Swimming Pool

On Thursday, Aadhav Arjuna, the Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, officially opened the refurbished Anna Swimming Pool. The renovation, which cost Rs 2.75 crore, was carried out by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. This Olympic-standard facility located in Chennai boasts a 50-metre main pool with depths varying from 2.5 to 3.5 metres, in addition to a 25-metre training pool designed for warm-ups. The renovation included the replacement of flooring and wall tiles, along with the installation of new pipelines, pumps, filtration systems, swimming ladders, gratings, and other modern equipment aimed at improving safety and training standards. Furthermore, a 1,500 sq ft air-conditioned gym has been added to the facility, and qualified coaches are now available to train both competitive swimmers and the general public.

Investment in Swimming Infrastructure Across the State

The minister emphasized that the enhanced infrastructure will offer athletes a secure and high-quality training environment, thereby promoting swimming throughout the state. He also mentioned ongoing projects, including the construction of new swimming pools at the Madurai District Sports Complex, which is budgeted at Rs 12.50 crore, and at the Karur District Sports Complex for Rs 6.27 crore. Additionally, renovation efforts are in progress at the Hosur swimming pool in Krishnagiri district, costing Rs 23 lakh, and at the Velachery swimming pool in Chennai, with an investment of Rs 16.35 crore. This brings the total expenditure on four swimming pool projects in Tamil Nadu to Rs 35.35 crore.

The inauguration event was graced by several dignitaries, including Sandeep Nanduri, Secretary of the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department, and J Meganatha Reddy, Member Secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, along with other senior officials.
