Inauguration of Next-Gen Dhruv-NG Helicopter by Union Aviation Minister

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has officially launched the Dhruv-NG helicopter at HAL in Bengaluru. This advanced, lightweight helicopter is designed to meet the diverse needs of Indian terrain and the global civil aviation market. With a maximum take-off weight of 5,500 kg and a capacity for 14 passengers, the Dhruv-NG promises enhanced safety and performance. The helicopter features state-of-the-art avionics and a glass cockpit, marking a significant milestone in India's indigenous aviation capabilities. Launch of the Dhruv-NG Helicopter

On Tuesday, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the next-generation Dhruv-NG civil helicopter at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Bengaluru. Dr. D.K. Sunil, the Chairman and Managing Director of HAL, was also present at the event. Naidu flagged off the maiden flight of the advanced light helicopter, Dhruv-NG, which is a civilian variant of the indigenous helicopter showcased at the 2025 Aero India Show.


According to HAL, the Dhruv-NG is a lightweight, twin-engine helicopter weighing 5.5 tons, designed to meet the diverse and challenging requirements of Indian terrain. It has been enhanced to cater to the stringent demands of the global civil aviation market, focusing on improved safety, performance, and passenger comfort. This helicopter marks a significant milestone in indigenous rotary-wing capabilities. The Dhruv-NG is equipped with two powerful 1H1C engines, providing high power ratings and enabling internal maintenance within India.


HAL further stated that the helicopter features a civil-certified glass cockpit compliant with AS4 standards and a modern avionics suite for enhanced situational awareness. It includes an advanced vibration control system specifically designed for VIP and medical transport, ensuring smooth flights.


The maximum take-off weight of the Dhruv-NG is 5,500 kilograms, and it can reach a top speed of 285 km/h.


Additionally, it has the capacity to carry up to 14 passengers.
