Inauguration of High Performance Centre to Boost Indian Sports

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has inaugurated a state-of-the-art High Performance Centre in Bengaluru, aimed at enhancing the training of elite athletes in India. With a total investment of Rs 75 crore, including significant CSR support from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, this facility will provide comprehensive sports science and support services. The HPC is part of India's strategic shift towards a high-performance sports culture, aligning with the nation's ambitions to excel in international competitions and host the 2036 Olympic Games. The event was attended by key officials and sports experts, marking a significant step in India's sporting journey.
 

Foundation Stone Laid for High Performance Centre

On Wednesday, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, conducted a virtual inauguration for the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of a cutting-edge High Performance Centre (HPC) at the Sports Authority of India's Netaji Subhas Southern Centre (NSSC) in Bengaluru. The HPC, with a total investment of Rs 75 crore, will receive Rs 60 crore in CSR funding from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This initiative aims to enhance India's elite athlete training framework by offering integrated, top-tier sports science and support facilities all in one location, according to a statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.


A Comprehensive Facility for Elite Athletes

Upon completion, the HPC will feature state-of-the-art amenities for sports medicine, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, biomechanics, physiology, psychology, nutrition, performance analysis, and hydrotherapy. This will facilitate a holistic, scientific, and data-driven approach to preparing elite athletes.


'Reform, Perform, Transform': A New Era in Sports

During his address, Mandaviya highlighted that the Centre symbolizes India's transition from a focus on participation to a commitment to high-performance sports. He remarked that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the mantra of 'reform, perform, and transform' is revolutionizing India's sports landscape.


"This High Performance Centre will ensure that our training and recovery processes are informed by science and technology, empowering our athletes to compete and succeed on the global stage," the Minister stated. He praised HAL for its substantial CSR investment, calling it a prime example of public sector enterprises aiding national development through sports. "An organization that supports national defense is now also contributing to India's sporting excellence," he noted.


Legacy and Future Goals

Mandaviya also acknowledged the legacy of SAI NSSC Bengaluru as a leading sports hub, which continues to facilitate National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), national coaching camps, and elite athlete training programs across various sports. The upcoming HPC is anticipated to play a crucial role in India's preparations for significant international sporting events and aligns with the nation's long-term goal of becoming a global sports powerhouse, including aspirations to host the 2036 Olympic Games.


Ceremony Highlights

The event began with a welcome address from Sh. Vishnu Kant Tiwari, Secretary of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). D. K. Sunil, Chairman & Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), also spoke, expressing pride in contributing to India's journey toward becoming a global sports leader.


The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports) and Director General of SAI.


The virtual event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, SAI, and HAL, along with notable athletes, coaches, and sports science professionals.
