Inauguration of Amarnath Yatra by Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor
Commencement of the Annual Amarnath Pilgrimage
On Monday, Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, performed the inaugural worship at the sacred Amarnath cave temple located in South Kashmir. This ceremony marks the official start of the annual Amarnath Yatra, which is set to begin on July 3.
According to an official statement, Sinha sought blessings from Baba Barfani and prayed for peace, prosperity, health, and well-being for everyone. He encouraged a large number of devotees to participate in the pilgrimage and experience this spiritual journey.
Sinha emphasized that the administration, along with the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, the army, police, security forces, local communities, service providers, and volunteer devotees, are working in complete coordination to ensure a safe, uninterrupted, and memorable pilgrimage. He noted that with improved infrastructure, better facilities, and the invaluable support of the people, officials are fully prepared to welcome pilgrims for a spiritually fulfilling journey.
Details of the Amarnath Yatra
The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) organizes the inaugural worship at the cave temple every year on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima. The 57-day Amarnath Yatra will officially commence on July 3 via two traditional routes: the Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The pilgrimage will conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
Accompanying Sinha during the visit to the cave temple were Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, Special DG (Coordination) SJM Gillani, CEO of SASB Mandeep Bhandari, and Anshul Garg, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir.
