Impact of West Asia Crisis on Flight Operations: Indian Aviation Minister Updates Parliament
Flight Cancellations Due to West Asia Tensions
On Monday, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu provided the Lok Sabha with details regarding the number of flights canceled by both Indian and foreign airlines due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Naidu reported that Indian airlines have canceled over 4,335 flights, while foreign carriers have scrapped 1,187 flights. He emphasized the importance of safety, stating that if airspace is closed, there is no need for flights in that region.
Travel Statistics and Ongoing Communication
Naidu further revealed that approximately 2,197,80 individuals have traveled during this period of heightened tension in West Asia. He stressed that the Civil Aviation Department is in constant communication with officials in the region. He noted that the opening of airspace is crucial for any travel, which remains unfeasible in many areas at present. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and its impact on air travel between India and the countries in that region.
Airlines Adjust Operations for Passenger Safety
To ensure passenger safety and smooth flight operations, airlines are making necessary operational adjustments in light of the current circumstances. The ministry is maintaining close coordination with airlines and other stakeholders to facilitate the seamless movement of passengers. Additionally, strict monitoring is in place to keep ticket prices reasonable and prevent unnecessary hikes during this period.
Advice for Travelers
Travelers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding flight schedules and travel arrangements. Due to the ongoing security crisis in West Asia, airspace closures have led to additional fuel charges and significantly impacted aviation operations across the region, resulting in flight disruptions.
