Impact of Rally in Delhi: 250,000 Shops Closed and 80% Business Halted

A significant rally held in Delhi on November 1 has reportedly led to the closure of around 250,000 shops, resulting in an estimated 80% halt in business activities. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has raised concerns about the impact on local markets and the challenges faced by traders due to transportation issues. While Rahul Gandhi encouraged attendees to support local businesses, the situation on the ground remains challenging for many. This article delves into the implications of the rally on Delhi's commercial landscape.

Business Disruption Amidst Major Rally in Delhi

On November 1, during a significant rally at Ramleela Maidan, reports emerged indicating a substantial impact on business operations in Delhi's commercial areas. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has asserted that approximately 250,000 shops remained closed, leading to an estimated 80% halt in business activities. This claim has sparked discussions regarding the capital's commercial environment.

Concerns Rise Over Rally's Effect on Business

According to the CTI, the rally at Ramleela Maidan is expected to adversely affect business activities across Delhi. The organization has sent a fourth letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding this matter, expressing concerns that the rally could disrupt operations in several major markets.

Brijesh Goyal, the chairman of CTI, indicated that around 250,000 shops in markets near Ramleela Maidan might remain closed due to the panic and transportation issues caused by the rally.

Key Markets Likely to Be Affected

CTI has highlighted several prominent markets in Delhi, including Chandni Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Khari Baoli, Kashmiri Gate, Chawri Bazaar, Naya Bazaar, Mori Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Daryaganj, Paharganj, Connaught Place, Janpath, Lajpat Rai Market, and Bhagirath Palace. The organization warns that the business activities in these areas could be significantly impacted due to the rally.

They estimate that around 80% of business operations in these markets may be affected.

Transport and Goods Movement Concerns

Business owners have expressed that the most pressing issue is related to transport and the movement of goods. There are concerns that transportation systems within a 10-kilometer radius of Ramleela Maidan could be disrupted. The CTI has noted that difficulties in loading and unloading may hinder the delivery of goods to shops.

This disruption is not expected to be limited to retail shops alone; it could also affect wholesale trade, supply chains, and small businesses. Interruptions in the supply of goods to markets may slow down business activities.

Rahul Gandhi's Appeal for Local Shopping

In a video message, Rahul Gandhi urged attendees of the rally to shop at local markets to support traders. While CTI welcomed his appeal, they emphasized that the conditions created by the rally on the ground are proving to be a challenge for business owners.

Overall, the issue of business disruption during the rally in Delhi is a topic of significant discussion. However, the figures of 250,000 closed shops and an 80% impact on business are based on CTI's claims and concerns, which should not be regarded as independently verified statistics.
