IMPHAL, Sept 4: The Chief Minister of Manipur, Y Khemchand Singh, announced in the Assembly that 36,000 of the 60,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been successfully resettled within the state.

During a discussion initiated by Congress member Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, the Chief Minister revealed that 24,000 IDPs remain in various relief camps.

He noted that individuals from both hill and valley regions expressed a strong desire to return to their homes. Singh shared that his visits to relief camps and conflict-affected areas revealed a shared wish among the communities for peace and a return to their residences.

Furthermore, Khemchand Singh mentioned that he has engaged with representatives from several joint associations of IDPs to discuss potential support and strategies for their resettlement.

Despite the resettlement of 36,000 individuals, the government continues to provide financial aid to approximately 59,000 of the 60,000 IDPs. The Chief Minister emphasized that even those who have returned face ongoing challenges related to livelihood and job opportunities.

Additionally, he stated that the Health Department is implementing measures to alleviate the trauma experienced by the IDPs.
