Jharkhand Student Protests Continue Over Recruitment Irregularities

Ranchi, Aug 14: The protests in Jharkhand regarding alleged irregularities and paper leaks in recruitment exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) have entered their 21st day. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has called on the JMM-led government to "save the soul" of the state.

Mahto, who is spearheading the protests in Ranchi and has been hospitalized due to health issues stemming from his hunger strike, expressed, "This pain surpasses my physical suffering. Jobs are being awarded through leaked papers, cheating, and favoritism. By commodifying jobs in Jharkhand, the essence of our state is being compromised. I urge everyone to keep the movement strong and uphold the dignity of Jharkhand."

In a video message, he appealed to the government and administration to "save the soul of Jharkhand," emphasizing that while power may shift in a democracy, blind obedience to authority is not advisable.

Mahto also warned that "certain individuals" are trying to divert the focus of the student protests, which he has initiated with significant effort.

Another protester, Khush Mahto, shared that he has been on a hunger strike for ten days. He stated, "Today marks the tenth day of my hunger strike. Our health is deteriorating rapidly. My condition worsened significantly on the sixth day, leading to an emergency admission at Sadar Hospital, where I was evaluated by medical staff. After feeling slightly better, I attended the 'Vidhan Sabha Gherao' protest on August 10, despite not being discharged from the hospital."

He noted that discussions between the protesters and the state government are ongoing, with more students from across the nation joining the movement, which will persist until all demands are addressed.

In addition, the protesters have organized a 'Tiranga Yatra' to take place on Independence Day.

Ravindra Kumar Paswan announced that the indefinite protest will continue, stating, "Tomorrow is August 15, and we will conduct a grand Tiranga Yatra. This event will demonstrate to the government our patriotic spirit, and when students take to the streets, it should prompt the government to take our demands seriously."
