New Delhi, May 29: In a focused operation, the Mukherjee Nagar Police Station team apprehended five Bangladeshi men for allegedly residing in India without valid visas.
Delhi Police received specific intelligence regarding a minor dispute involving two groups in the Mukherjee Nagar area.
Witnesses reported hearing two men conversing in Bangla, which raised suspicions among locals. This prompted residents to alert the police about the individuals.
A specialized police unit, led by Head Constable Puneet and supported by Head Constables Pankaj and Vinit, along with Constables Vivek and Kishor Pashi, was formed under the guidance of Inspector Rajeev Shah and ACP Suresh Chander.
The team's mission was to verify the identities and residency status of the suspected individuals to confirm their legal standing in the area.
During the operation, the police detained the two suspects. Further inquiries revealed that they were living in a rented space in Indira Vikas Colony, Mukherjee Nagar, alongside three other Bangladeshi nationals.
Investigations indicated that all five had entered Delhi from Bangladesh at different times via air travel. According to police, they were allegedly intending to travel to Greece for job opportunities but had been waiting for interview calls since December 2025, continuing to stay in Delhi even after their visas expired.
The detained individuals were identified as Rahmat Ullah (23), Mohd. Ashraful (23), Salman Bhuiyan (25), Md. Rashel (37), and Md. Rahim Mia (33), all hailing from Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh.
Authorities discovered that the group had initially stayed in various hotels upon their arrival in India. After their visas lapsed, they reportedly moved to Indira Vikas Colony with help from an associate named Ganpati Biswas, a permanent resident of Malda Town in West Bengal.
Police confirmed that all five had overstayed their visas in India.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend Ganpati Biswas for further legal proceedings.
Delhi Police stated that appropriate legal actions have been initiated. The detained Bangladeshi nationals were presented to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), and deportation processes have commenced as per regulations.
