IIT Mandi Celebrates 14th Convocation with Record-Breaking Graduating Class

IIT Mandi recently celebrated its 14th Convocation, awarding degrees to 643 students, including a record number of B.Tech graduates. The event featured notable guests and highlighted the institute's commitment to innovation and research. Graduates were encouraged to embrace originality and adaptability in a technology-driven world. The ceremony recognized outstanding academic achievements, with several students receiving prestigious awards. As they embark on new journeys, the graduates are poised to contribute to India's future through knowledge and innovation.
 

Significant Milestone for IIT Mandi


The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi held its 14th Convocation on Saturday at its scenic North Campus located in Kamand Valley, marking a notable achievement in its role as a premier institution for technological education and research in the Western Himalayas.


During the event, degrees were conferred to 643 students, comprising 321 undergraduates, 259 postgraduates, and 63 PhD candidates. This year’s cohort featured the largest B.Tech class in the institute's history, highlighting IIT Mandi's continuous academic advancement and expanding educational influence.


B.K. Goenka, the Founder of Welspun World, served as the Chief Guest for the ceremony, which also included notable figures such as Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, as Guests of Honour. The event was presided over by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon, PVSM, UYSM, YSM, VSM, Chairman of the Board of Governors.


In his address to the graduates, B.K. Goenka encouraged them to adopt values of joy, creativity, and bravery as they enter a technology-driven future.



"In this age of Artificial Intelligence, it is essential to maintain your originality, learn from setbacks, and be flexible to change. While knowledge is easily accessible today, the key lies in its application. Your ideas, actions, and dedication will shape India's future," he stated.


Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi, congratulated the graduates and urged them to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through innovation, research, and technological excellence.


He pointed out that the institute has recently acquired externally funded research projects totaling nearly ₹100 crore, which enhances its research capabilities. Additionally, IIT Mandi has introduced India’s first B.Tech program in Quantum Science and Engineering, along with new courses in Agricultural Engineering with Data Analytics and Chemical Engineering with Data Analytics, demonstrating its commitment to forward-thinking education.


Recognition of Academic Excellence


The convocation also celebrated exceptional academic accomplishments across various fields.


Vayun Goyal was honored as the top achiever, receiving both the President of India Gold Medal and the Institute Gold Medal in B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering).


Sukhvansh Jain was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for his excellence in academics, leadership, and overall development.


Institute Gold Medals were awarded to Sneha Chandna (Bioengineering), Khushi Rewar (Civil Engineering), Bipanjit Singh (Data Science and Engineering), Akshar Agrawal (Electrical Engineering), Aridaman Singh Chauhan (Engineering Physics), and Pranjal Vats (Mechanical Engineering).


Archita received the Rani Gonsalves Memorial Medal for her outstanding academic and co-curricular achievements, while Khushi Rewar, Ojasvi Hemant Chaudhary, and Niharika Chauhan were recognized with the NBCC Awards for their exceptional performance in Civil Engineering.


The Institute Innovation Silver Medal was awarded to Ananya Rai and Virani Devendrabhai Dineshbhai for their contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship, while Ekansh Verma received the Kiran Bala Arora Memorial Award.


Among the postgraduate students, Institute Gold Medals were presented to Sneha Vijayan (M.A. Development Studies), Khushi Garg (MBA Data Science & Artificial Intelligence), Kashish Chaudhary (M.Sc. Applied Mathematics), Preeti (M.Sc. Chemistry), Manav Gupta (M.Sc. Physics), Chikirsha Gulati (M.Tech Biotechnology), Ayush Thakur (M.Tech Power Electronics & Drives), and Adarsh Arya (M.Tech Structural Engineering).


The ceremony gathered faculty, parents, alumni, and distinguished guests to honor the achievements of the graduates and reaffirm IIT Mandi’s dedication to fostering innovation, interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship, and socially responsible leadership.


As the graduates embark on their new paths in industry, academia, research, and entrepreneurship, the convocation symbolized not just the culmination of their academic endeavors but also the start of their contributions to nation-building through knowledge, innovation, and service.
