In the coming days, representatives from the International Cricket Council (ICC) will visit Bangladesh for a crucial meeting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This meeting aims to finalize the decision regarding Bangladesh's participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, according to sources.

BCB's Request for Match Relocation

This situation arises after a video conference held on Tuesday between the BCB and the ICC, where they discussed the Bangladesh National Cricket Team's involvement in the prestigious T20I tournament. Currently, Bangladesh's travel to India for their T20 World Cup matches is in doubt, as the BCB has formally requested the ICC to move their games outside of India, citing 'safety and security concerns' for the players. This request follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release pacer Mustafizur from their IPL 2026 roster due to rising tensions affecting Hindus in Bangladesh.

BCB's Firm Stance on Security

During the video conference, the BCB was represented by President Aminul Islam, Vice Presidents Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed, Director and Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee Nazmul Abedeen, and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury. The BCB reiterated its decision to avoid traveling to India, emphasizing security issues. They also urged the ICC to consider relocating Bangladesh's matches to ensure player safety.

Ongoing Discussions Between BCB and ICC

While the ICC acknowledged that the tournament schedule has been released and requested the BCB to reconsider its position, the BCB remained steadfast in its concerns. Both organizations agreed to continue discussions to find potential solutions.

Bangladesh's T20 World Cup Fixtures

The T20 World Cup is set to commence on February 7. Bangladesh will kick off their campaign against two-time champions West Indies on the opening day at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Following this match, they will compete against Italy on February 9 at the same venue, face the reigning T20 World Cup champions England in Kolkata, and wrap up their group-stage matches with a game against Nepal on February 17.
