Hyderabad Set to Become Major High-Speed Rail Hub with New Bullet Train Corridors
Hyderabad's Transformation into a High-Speed Rail Hub
On Saturday, Union Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Hyderabad is poised to emerge as a significant high-speed rail hub. The government has proposed three bullet train corridors connecting Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru. Vaishnaw emphasized that these projects will interlink regional economies and significantly alter the city's development trajectory. Speaking at the HYSEA GCCS and IT Roundtable in Hyderabad, he revealed that the central government has allocated a record ₹5,400 crores for railway projects in Telangana, calling it a game-changer for the state's transport infrastructure.
Impact of High-Speed Corridors on Regional Development
The minister highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved three high-speed bullet train corridors for Hyderabad, which are expected to transform the city's landscape. The routes from Pune to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Chennai, and Hyderabad to Bengaluru will be pivotal for the entire region. This initiative will not only foster significant development but also ensure that the economies of the surrounding areas are closely integrated. Vaishnaw also noted that Telangana has greatly benefited from the central government's push for electronics manufacturing, with over 100 companies being promoted under various initiatives.
Modernization of Railway Infrastructure
Under the electronics manufacturing program of the Indian government, Telangana has seen substantial advantages, with a budget of ₹5,400 crores allocated for railway development. Vaishnaw mentioned that the central government has completed the redevelopment of 261 railway stations across the country as part of its station modernization program, with rapid progress also being made in Telangana. He referred to the redevelopment of the Secunderabad station, where construction is ongoing without disrupting train operations. Vaishnaw explained that while railway redevelopment typically halts traffic, they are working carefully to maintain operations, including the construction of an air concourse that will cover all platforms while trains continue to run.
