Horrific Case of Domestic Violence in Uttar Pradesh: Pregnant Woman Abused Over Dowry Demand
Shocking Incident of Domestic Abuse
In a disturbing incident from Bhadohi district, Uttar Pradesh, a husband has been accused of physically assaulting his pregnant wife over a dowry demand of 10 lakh rupees. Reports indicate that he has previously kicked her in the abdomen, leading to severe consequences.
Legal Action Taken Against the Accused
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Aradhana Shukla, on Saturday during a public hearing, a case has been registered against her husband, Abhinesh Shukla, along with his mother and brother under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act at the Gopiganj police station.
Continuous Harassment by In-Laws
According to police superintendent Abhinav Tyagi, Aradhana, who married Abhinesh on May 21, 2022, faced ongoing harassment despite receiving a substantial dowry. Her husband and in-laws began demanding an additional 10 lakh rupees, subjecting her to constant mistreatment when their demands were not met.
Tragic Loss of Unborn Children
Tyagi reported that when Aradhana was eight months pregnant, her husband assaulted her multiple times, resulting in the death of their unborn child. Afterward, she was sent back to her parental home for medical care.
Repeated Incidents of Violence
The police chief noted that after some relatives intervened, Abhinesh took Aradhana to Delhi, where he continued to live with his mother and brother. In July 2025, when Aradhana was again pregnant, she was brutally beaten once more over the same dowry demand.
Threats to Life
Despite her deteriorating condition, Abhinesh reportedly brought her back to Bhadohi on a motorcycle and assaulted her again at the railway station, threatening to kill her if she returned without the demanded money.
Police Investigation Underway
Tyagi mentioned that after informing her family, Aradhana was admitted to a hospital, where she suffered another miscarriage. She had previously sought help from the women's police station and Gopiganj police but faced inaction. The police are now actively searching for the accused.
