Smriti Mandhana's Milestone

In a significant moment for women's cricket, England won the toss and opted for India to bat first during the one-off Women's Test at Lord's on Friday. Opener Smriti Mandhana celebrated a remarkable career achievement by marking her 300th international match.

Youngest to Reach 300

Mandhana, who will turn 30 on July 18, has made history as the youngest female cricketer to reach the 300-international milestone. She is now the 12th player in women's international cricket to accomplish this feat, joining the ranks of Indian legends Mithali Raj (333 matches) and Harmanpreet Kaur (374).

A Landmark Test at Lord's

This match is particularly historic as it is the first Women's Test ever held at Lord's, known as the Home of Cricket. It marks the 56th Women's Test in England, with the previous 55 matches played across 19 different venues. The County Ground in Worcester has hosted the most Women's Tests, totaling nine from 1951 to 2009, followed by The Oval with six matches between 1937 and 1976.

England vs India: A Competitive Rivalry

This contest represents the 16th Women's Test between England and India. India currently leads the rivalry with three wins, while England's sole victory came by a mere two runs in Jamshedpur in 1995, which remains the narrowest win by runs in Women's Test history. The other 11 matches have concluded in draws.

This marks India's 10th Women's Test in England, where they have secured two victories out of their previous nine matches, with the remaining seven ending in draws.

The last encounter in England was a one-off Test in June 2021, which ended in a draw. Their most recent Test meeting took place in Navi Mumbai in December 2023, where India triumphed with a commanding 347-run win.

Tammy Beaumont's Farewell

This match also serves as the farewell appearance for England batter Tammy Beaumont. Beaumont, who is the only England woman to have scored a double century in Test cricket, will retire following this match. She is also the second woman in history to achieve international centuries in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
