A New Dawn for Bihmari Bongaon

Power finally reached the village, bringing an end to decades spent under the flicker of kerosene lamps.

Biswanath, July 5: For 78 years following India's independence, the inhabitants of Bihmari Bongaon, located in Assam's Behali Assembly constituency, lived without any electric lighting.

This situation has recently changed, as electricity has finally been introduced to the village, marking the end of years spent relying on kerosene lamps.

The prolonged absence of electricity deprived generations of villagers of a basic necessity that many across the nation have long enjoyed.

Children often completed their homework late into the night using lamplight, while families endured the sweltering summers of Assam without fans to provide relief.

Every evening task requiring light was performed in the same manner it had been for nearly eight decades, under the dim and smoky glow of kerosene.

The introduction of electricity is a monumental change for the villagers.

One resident expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, local MLA Munindra Das, and their MP, stating, "We are truly delighted today because our children had been studying under kerosene lamps until now."

Another villager highlighted the importance of this moment for the children, who will now have access to opportunities that were previously out of reach.

"We had been waiting for electricity for a long time, and now that it has arrived, we are overjoyed. For years, we faced challenges without electricity during the summer. All our work was done under lamp light. While no one here owns a computer, our children will now have the chance to learn more and explore new opportunities," the villager remarked.

For a community that has waited since 1947, this change represents much more than just turning on a switch.

It signifies the beginning of a gradual yet significant transformation, where fans can finally provide relief from the summer heat, students can study without straining their eyes against dim light, and computers, once a distant dream, may soon become a reality in their homes.

The electrification of Bihmari Bongaon may be a small milestone on Assam's development journey, but for its residents, it symbolizes the arrival of the future they have been promised for 78 years.
