Bangladesh Pacers Shine in Historic Test Match

In a remarkable day for Bangladesh cricket, pacer Hasan Mahmud achieved the best bowling figures ever recorded by a Bangladeshi against Australia, while Taskin Ahmed celebrated his milestone of 300 international wickets during the first Test match against the reigning World Test Champions in Darwin on Thursday.

Hasan Mahmud's Record-Breaking Performance

On the opening day of the match, Bangladesh bowled out Australia for a mere 198 runs, marking Australia's lowest score against Bangladesh in Tests and their first total under 200. Hasan Mahmud delivered an outstanding performance, claiming 6 wickets for 55 runs, dismantling the Australian batting order. He became the third Bangladeshi bowler, following legends Shakib al Hasan and Mohammed Rafique, to achieve a five-wicket haul against Australia, and the first to do so on Australian soil.

Hasan's impressive figures surpassed Rafique's previous record of 5/62 set in Fatullah in 2006, contributing to Australia's lowest Test score against Bangladesh since they managed only 217 runs in Mirpur back in 2017.

With three five-wicket hauls in just 15 Tests, Hasan ranks second among Bangladeshi pacers, trailing only Shahadat Hossain, who has four in 38 Tests. His ability to secure five-wicket hauls in India, Pakistan, and now Australia has established him as a formidable bowler in challenging conditions.

Australia struggled to maintain momentum after a 45-run opening partnership between Travis Head (22) and Jake Weatherald (23), quickly collapsing to 74 for 4. Although Steve Smith contributed a solid 71 runs off 109 balls, including seven fours and a six, Hasan's relentless bowling proved too much for the Australian side.

Taskin Ahmed Reaches 300 Wickets Milestone

Taskin Ahmed also made history by becoming the sixth bowler in Bangladesh's cricket history to reach 300 international wickets, finishing the day with figures of 2 for 55.

He now boasts a total of 300 wickets across 204 matches, including 13 four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls, with an average exceeding 28.

In the all-time bowling rankings for Bangladesh, Taskin is positioned behind Shakib al Hasan (712), Mashrafe Mortaza (389), Mustafizur Rahman (384), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (369), and Taijul Islam (302).
